In the business of buying and selling, there must always be a few rules and regulations. These are formulated to help you, as our customers, to understand the process of our business, and to protect your rights. Below are just a few things you need to read about shopping with Hoptroff & Lee. Please read the relevant sections. Thank you.

Nature of items sold

Antique and vintage items are old and therefore will show signs of age and use. Items are sold as seen both instore and online. Expert advice is on-hand in store and by contacting us online so please ask questions, look/read the description carefully and ensure you are happy with your items before buying. Please ask for more images and a more detailed description of your chosen item if you are buying online.

Payments 

In store, we accept cash payments, and card payments both contact and contactless. 

If you are paying remotely for online purchases direct from us you must have a Paypal account, or pay in store by any of the above methods.

Etsy accepts Paypal and debit/credit cards.

Returns, Refunds and Reserving items 


RETURNS

We are not obliged to accept returns for refunds or exchanges due to the nature of our goods, but we assess each case individually. We ask you to check every aspect of your item thoroughly at the point of sale. Returns must normally be within 14 days of purchase.


REFUNDS: are at our discretion and we look at cases individually. Please scroll down to the next section for further information.


RESERVING ITEMS

Shoppers in store may reserve an item with a 50% deposit. THIS IS NON-REFUNDABLE if you decide not to purchase the item. 

If you are paying remotely you must pay in full at the point of sale. Reserved items for which a deposit has been paid in store MUST be collected within 14 working days and paid for in full at that time.

If you are purchasing an item seen online that you have not personally viewed you may return the item under EU distance selling laws (scroll down to the next but one section). 



ONLINE SERVICE:

Description and EU Law 


 As sellers with an online presence we must comply with current EU Distance Selling Law (scroll down to the next section to read in full). When you contact us about an item you are interested in we will provide full information including further images on request. Courier costs and conditions will be included in this information. Payment must be in full at the point of sale. If you decide to return the item, EU law states that you must return the item within 14 days in its original state with its original packaging. This rule applies on the Etsy website also. Any suspicious issues will be reported to Paypal/Etsy, whichever applies.






ONLINE SERVICE:

Collection and Delivery


COLLECTING ITEMS PHYSICALLY:

Arranging collection of any item purchased in store or online is the buyer's responsibility. You should take every precaution when moving and handling larger items, taking our advice.


COURIER DELIVERY DURING 

COVID-19:

Delivery of any online item (or anything bought in store during our normal trading times that you are having collected) by courier MAY BE DELAYED.

 We are using a courier service (for our online goods) who collects from us at home, they are busy and may not be as reliable as we would expect them to be under normal circumstances. If your item is delayed or lost we will step in to help and we have guidelines regarding this issue. Your tracking reference should be used in the first instance to check progress of your parcel.


DAMAGED PURCHASES:

The buyer must provide 2 CLEAR photo images of the damage sustained during mailing, to be sent to us within 14 days of receipt of your purchase. This also applies to Etsy purchases.

you must abide by Etsy rules. At present, courier collection is daily. Please see "Collection and Delivery" to the left for further details including lost and damaged items.

PRIVACY POLICY:

To‚Äč comply with General Data Protection Regulations, we do not store customer details. Any previous records have been destroyed. We do not possess or operate any software that enables us to keep any such records. You can invite us to contact you by using our form on the

"Contact Us" page of this website, or emailing us. Once we have seen your query on the website, the form automatically clears, so no information is kept, nor is it stored in any part of our Stamford shop or computer/mobile phone system. Your details are not passed to any third party. The contact you have invited us to make is a once-only event. Should you wish us to contact you again, please use the form/email us. Should you see your own personal image in any of our website photographs or any social media video or image initiated by Hoptroff & Lee, you can ask us to remove it at any time.


EU DISTANCE SELLING LAW:

Under current EU Law you have the right to change your mind about a purchase. Specifically, this means that you have decided not to buy a particular item due to personal choice, NOT that you have omitted to request or pay attention to the full information provided about the item. Online listings cannot give every single detail so you are encouraged to request further information either written or photographic should it be required. The process of returns is as follows:

*Buyers must contact the seller within 14 days of receipt of the item.

*The buyer pays return postage costs.

*If you cancel a purchase anytime after it is already in the post, you still pay the return postage.

*Information will be given to buyers about how to proceed, including timelines, packaging and posting. You must follow this information or extra costs may be incurred by yourself.

*The item must be returned to the seller (full address will be provided) in exactly the same condition as when it was posted, together with all original packaging intact. Costs incurred due to the buyer omitting any part of this process will be DEDUCTED from any refund.

*Once the seller has received the item and is satisfied that everything is in order, a refund will be given. No refunds are given for purchases which return damaged or are lost in transit as this is the buyer's overall responsibility.


*REFUNDS:

Refunds for in store or online purchases are at our discretion. If you can show that we have omitted to give you the full information or that we have been grossly inaccurate in an online listing this will be in your favour. We will expect to see that you have requested, prior to buying an item online, and as advised throughout our policies, further images/details of that item that have helped you to make an informed decision prior to purchasing that same item.

We DO NOT refund you either instore or online purely because the item you have purchased shows wear and age. Items are sold as seen. We also cannot refund you if you have clearly failed to read a description of the item online.


CANCELLATIONS: As the seller, Hoptroff & Lee reserve the right to cancel an order where:

*There are problems with the given postal address either given to us at time of purchase or when postal worker delivery is attempted.

*An item becomes unsaleable (by definition this means damaged) prior to posting.

*There are general communication issues between buyer and seller.

*An attempt is made to purchase an item clearly reserved for another buyer, or SOLD.

*The purchase is from a buyer with an International address.

*Hoptroff & Lee will report to Paypal/Etsy any suspicious behaviour regarding those items purchased through these systems.
